(See below under &quot;Tournament Documents&quot;)</p> <p><strong>Entry Limitations:</strong>&nbsp;This tournament is open only to schools in the San Diego Imperial Valley Speech League.</p> <p>It will feature a&nbsp;Varsity division and a Novice division in all events. In order to be eligible for the&nbsp;<strong>Novice division in Policy</strong>, debaters must&nbsp;not have competed in any high school&nbsp;<strong>debate</strong>&nbsp;tournament in previous school years (speech or congress participation ok).&nbsp;In cases where partners are &quot;mixed&quot; (one Novice, one Varsity), that pair must compete at the Varsity level.&nbsp;In order to be eligible for the&nbsp;<strong>Novice division in Congress or either Extemp,&nbsp;</strong>competitors must not have competed in any high school speech or debate tournament in any event in previous school years.&nbsp;</p> <p>Competitors entered in Policy Debate can only enter that event. Students can double&nbsp;enter in Congress and EITHER IX or NX. &nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Judges:</strong>&nbsp;Each school is required to bring 1 judge for every four students, or part thereof. The required number of judges for debate must be present throughout the entirety of debate rounds. The required number of judges for Congress must be present throughout the entirety of Congress rounds. The required number of judges for Extemp must be present throughout the entirety of Extemp&nbsp;rounds. <strong>Example</strong>: A school has 2 Policy teams, 4 Congress students, and 2 Extempers. This means that during Congress rounds, the team has 9 students competing - they must have 3 judges during Congress rounds. During Extemp rounds, the team has 6 students competing - they must have 2 judges during Extemp rounds.&nbsp;Schools not meeting their judging commitment at all times during the tournament will be required to drop uncovered entries.&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"http://www.forensicstournament.net/SDIVSLDebate3/14/blog/\">Click&nbsp;here</a>&nbsp;for instructions regarding entering judges.<br /> <br /> <strong>Entry Fees:</strong>&nbsp;$12 per debate team; $6&nbsp;per Congress or Extemp&nbsp;entry. Make checks payable to SDIVSL.<br /> <br /> <strong>Entry Deadline:</strong>&nbsp;Entries must be posted on www.forensicstournament.net by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 19. No new teams or students may add after the entry deadline. The only changes allowed after the entry deadline is dropping entries (see below).<br /> <br /> <strong>Drops:</strong>&nbsp;Dropped entries will be accepted without charge until Wednesday, October 21, at 5:00 p.m. After that time, the website will be closed and entry fees will be final. Please email (lily.bolig@sduhsd.net for Policy and Congress, orfield.michael@gmail.com for Extemp) or call in/text (Lily - 760-807-4482; Michael -&nbsp;858-354-3616)&nbsp;your drops after the drop deadline, even as late as on your way to the tournament, to obviate excessive changes at the beginning of the tournament. When calling in or emailing drops, be sure to give the speaker&rsquo;s name, event, and your school clearly.</p> <p><strong>Rounds/Awards: </strong>All&nbsp;Policy teams will compete in four rounds. All Congress competitors will compete in three&nbsp;rounds. Each Extemp will feature four rounds: three preliminary rounds for all competitors (or two prelim and a semi final - two panels of five competitors&nbsp;each -&nbsp;if there are&nbsp;20 or more entries in a division), and a final round (five competitors).</p> <p>&nbsp;Trophies&nbsp;will be given to all undefeated debate teams. Medals will be given to all 1-loss debate teams. Places 1-8 will be awarded in each division of Congress, and places 1-5 will be awarded to each division of Extemp. Team sweepstakes points will be accumulated for League #4-#6&nbsp;and awarded at League #6. Trophies will be given to the top 3 teams earning the most sweepstakes points in the varsity&nbsp;division only, then class trophies will be awarded as warranted.&nbsp;Trophies will also&nbsp;be given to the top 3 teams earning the most sweepstakes points in the novice division only, then class trophies will be awarded as warranted. (The number of class trophies is dependent upon the number of teams competing in the tournaments. Classes are determined by number of entries - teams are divided into classes based on their number of entries as compared to other teams entered in the tournament.
