<h1><strong>2015 NCFA Debate Camp at Santa Rosa Junior College</strong></h1>
<p>I am pleased to extend an invitation to the 2015 NCFA Debate Camp hosted by Santa Rosa Junior College. The camp will take place on Saturday, September 12 and focus on NPDA and NFA-LD style debate. This year we are continuing with a new format that we hope will make the camp beneficial to both our rookie and more seasoned competitors alike. The event will follow last year’s single day format, and will consist of lectures and labs in the morning with a 3 round mock tournament in the afternoon.</p>
<p>Like last year it is our plan to offer some advanced lectures in the morning for your more experienced debaters. It is our hope this will increase participation by seasoned debaters who will then participate on judging panels in the afternoon. The advanced sessions will be collapsed (both NPDA and LD open debaters) and will focus on debate theory. The final advanced session will include an NCFA judge training that will aim to prepare open competitors to judge in the following mock tournament as well as high school forensics and “spring fling” type outlets.</p>
<p>All formats of debate will be governed by their respective national rules of debating. Rounds 1 and 2 will be preset; round 3 will be powered off of round 1. There will be no awards ceremony, however directors will be emailed the records and seedings of each debate team after the event. Ballots will also be available electronically after the event. Disclosure and discussion is encouraged, but please stay aware of the schedule when giving novice debaters feedback and don’t forget to return your ballots!</p>
<p><strong>Judging</strong></p>
<p>One judge covers two entries in any form of debate per day. A judge can be split between two different formats on the same day (Parli/LD) but may only be assigned to one pool by the director. If judging commitment is a problem, please let us know beforehand.</p>
<p>Any coach, faculty member, or open level competitor with at least one year of experience may judge at the camp. Please bring enough judges to cover your entry. Entries may be restricted based on available judging; we are not planning on hiring judges. Remember our hope is that you will bring your open debaters to help with our new format.</p>
<p><strong>Fees</strong></p>
<p>Our fee structure is designed to be very affordable and accessible. We have to cover administrative costs, and some basic materials services. Please contact Ryan Guy if these fees constitute a financial hardship for your squad.</p>

<p>We are not permitting uncovered entries, so there is no uncovered fee. If you would like to “rent” a judge from another school we can set that up if judges are available.</p>

<p><strong>Guidelines for Maintaining a Professional and Respectful Educational Environment:</strong></p>
<p>All tournament attendees are to be protected from an intimidating, hostile, or threatening work or educational environment. All attendees will be held to the standards established by <a href=\"http://law.onecle.com/california/education/212.5.html\" target=\"_blank\">California Education Code 212.5</a> and/or <a href=\"http://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ocr/docs/tix_dis.html\" target=\"_blank\">Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972</a>. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in being removed from the tournament and/or being disqualified from the round in question. All incidences of such violations should be reported to the tournament director. Judges will be instructed that they may dismiss or award a loss to a student who violates California Education Code 212.5 and/or Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.</p>

<p><strong>Entry</strong></p>
<p>Entry for the Debate Camp will be done online at <a href=\"https://www.forensicstournament.net/NCFADebateCamp/15\">https://www.forensicstournament.net/NCFADebateCamp/15</a> with a closing date of Thursday, September 10 at 4pm. Changes ARE permitted in person the morning of the event at registration; at that time rosters will be finalized for the practice debates later in the day. This should give us the opportunity to make hybrid teams if an odd number of debaters make the event from given squads.</p>

<p>Please do not send your debaters to the event without registering them in the tournament. Adding entire schools day-of adds unnecessary stress to the event. Also, please send a coach or other representative from your school to oversee and supervise the learning of your students even if you are not judging or lecturing.</p>

Please send a coach to check in with us at registration <strong>Emeritus 1518 (first floor, south side) </strong>which is directly across the street from Bertolini. </p>
