<p>Hello. &nbsp;Would you like to register for this tournament? &nbsp;You must be a member of the SCJFL and have already paid league dues. &nbsp;If you aren&#39;t sure, contact the tournament admin using the &quot;contact tournament&quot; tab at the top of this page.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>What: &nbsp;SCJFL 3rd League Debate Tournament of the 2013-14 school year. &nbsp;Debate Only.</p> <p>When: &nbsp;March 8th, 2014<br /> <br /> Where: &nbsp;Don Bosco High School in San Gabriel</p> <p>Events: &nbsp;Policy, PF, LD</p> <p>Topics: &nbsp;PF = Voting Rights Act - NFL Feb Topic. &nbsp;LD = Resource Extraction - NFL Jan/Feb Topic</p> <p><strong>PF: &nbsp;Resolved: The Supreme Court rightly decided that Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act violated the Constitution.</strong></p> <p><strong>LD: &nbsp;Resolved: Developing countries should prioritize environmental protection over resource extraction when the two are in conflict.</strong></p> <p>Time: &nbsp;Approx. 7AM-7PM</p> <p>Judges: &nbsp;Anticipate a ratio of 1:4 for public forum and LD. &nbsp;We are going to need to flight both events, I&#39;m assuming. &nbsp;If entry numbers are unexpectedly low for some reason, we may be able to single flight LD, in which case LD will have a ratio of 1:2. &nbsp;Policy will have a ratio of 1 judge per 2 entries, as it cannot be flighted, regardless of entry numbers.</p> <p>Judge and Entry rankings: &nbsp;We will need all coaches to rank their debate entries in each event. &nbsp;</p> <p>1. <strong>&nbsp;Please rank your entries.</strong> &nbsp;Here&#39;s how: &nbsp;<br /> <br /> Let&#39;s say a coach brings 8 PF entries. &nbsp;The coach thinks Bob and Sue are his best team. &nbsp;He calls them PF Team A. &nbsp;Joe and Mary are his second best team. &nbsp;He calls them PF&nbsp;Team B. &nbsp;Helen and Ulysses are his third best team. &nbsp;He calls them PF&nbsp;Team C...... Qbert and Gil are his worst team of the 8. &nbsp;He calls them PF&nbsp;Team H.&nbsp;</p> <p>2. &nbsp;<strong>Please rank your judges</strong>. &nbsp;Here&#39;s how:<br /> <br /> Identify an individual who will be judging. &nbsp;Determine that individuals level of competence. &nbsp;Experienced varsity high school debaters, college debaters, coaches, and former debaters with experience, are given a 1. &nbsp;Novice high school debaters, experienced debate judges without actual&nbsp;competition/coaching experience, are given a 2. &nbsp;Smart, politically knowledgable, rational-minded, intelligent adults, who seem like they&#39;re likely to be good,&nbsp;unbiased judges, but have little to no actual judging experience,&nbsp;are given a 3. &nbsp;Random parents, people you don&#39;t know well enough to really say, people who are intimidated by the prospect of judging debate, people who are likely to put their own bias into the decision, are given a 4.</p> <h2 style=\"font-style:italic\">Registration will close at 5 PM on February 21st.</h2> <h2 style=\"font-style:italic\">Add/Drop/Change closes at 5 PM&nbsp;Feb 28th.</h2> <h2 style=\"font-style:italic\">Drops only closes at 5 PM March 5th.</h2> <p>Please submit your entry rankings no later than Feb 21st - use &quot;contact tournament&quot; or email Strauss or Mike.</p> <p>Please submit your judge rankings no later than Feb 28th&nbsp;&nbsp;- use &quot;contact tournament&quot; or email Strauss or Mike.</p>
