Reseda HS & VelasquezAcademy.com host Principios 3:
A 3rd-12th Grade Onramp to SoCal Competitive Speech

BREAKING NEWS: All Scanned Ballots: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1U2YGXBLiaN_3LeapEA2v_oBVtNQ7vnb3?usp=sharing

Results from our tab room: http://www.forensicstournament.net/p/16/results/

Postings for all prelims are UP! http://www.forensicstournament.net/p/16/postings/ ]

Welcome to the 3rd Annual "Principios" (meaning both "beginnings" & "principles" in Spanish), a tournament which seeks to kickstart awareness of and access to competitive speech & debate by raising funds to offer free coaching & participation to students attending select, urban, public schools. We are now taking entries! Thank you for considering our contest and cause (to support the extension of forensics coaching & funding to areas and student bodies not proportionately/traditionally found/represented in speech & debate).

Schools which are new to Principios should take note that registering to compete in Principios constitutes your willingness to have STUDENTS FILMED DURING ROUNDS. There is no parental opt-out. Coaches bear the responsobility of informing students and parents of this wrinkle in our contest. The "opt out" is to not have that student compete. We allow filming so as to promote & provide traning materials for inexperienced coaching staffs and cash strapped schools which do not have access to audio-visual demonstration materials.

[this paragraph revised on 11/5 at 10:45am] We charge no school fees, as usual. Entry fees will be $15 per event, and 1 judge is required for every 4 entries, with $50 per uncovered slot. New schools: please be aware that fees for Principios need to be paid NO LATER THAN TUESDAY THE 8TH (otherwise, we couldn't afford the gorgeous & LARGE TROPHIES we are known for), so don't count on adding nor paying for anything on the morning of the 12th. Fees & fines are due via electronic or in-person method (IF NO PAYMENT IS RECEIVED BY THE 12TH, YOUR TEAM WILL BE DROPPED). If you cannot make electronic payments then you will need to drive in your payment. NB: fines for missing judges are exceedingly high: we aren't getting greedy, but we need to offload the desperate search for judges to our teams. So don't plan on buying out your judging obligations unless your budget can absorb thousands of dollars in fines. Please e-mail rv4@me.com for pay options.

[this rules listing revised on 11/5 at 11am] Triple entry is allowed in each Pattern UNLESS competing in Congress in Pattern A or SpAr in Pattern B, in which case you may only compete in TWO TOTAL EVENTS in the same pattern. In the case of SpAr, please go to your SpAr round first, then your second Pattern B event. In the case of Congress, quickly do your one other Pattern A event and then proceed to your Congress house/room.

Our version of SpAr is 1 minute Prep, 1 min. As there will be filming in the A Building and an administrator would have to brought in to open and close the parking lot each time somone entered or left, it's simplest to not use the school parking this time.

Tab/Judges room will be in the Library. Awards wil be held in Regent's Halls. Competition rooms will mostly be clustered in the S Building, The M Building & the Bungalows.

Printable rules, school map/rooms and final schedule to posted soon.

I'm excited to see you all at Reseda High School! Feel free to e-mail us your questions at rv4@me.com.
