Welcome to the home page for the 2016 1st Annual Dragon Worlds Debate tournament hosted by Delta Charter HS on Nov 12-13, 2016 for High School students.

Status: Tournament Completed

TOURNAMENT CANCELLED

Delta Charter HS and NSDA Big Valley district are excited to announce the first World Debate invite in NorCal!!! We are happy to offer SEVEN prelim rounds of world debate, breaking the top four teams to out-rounds. We are hoping to make this new tournament and new debate event, an annual central valley tradition. Thank you for taking the time to consider this exciting opportunity. NSDA has recently announced each district will be able to send TWO teams to Nats this year so we are hoping to give everyone an early opportunity to prepare!

Location

Delta Charter School is located in the central valley of California at 31400 S. Koster Road, Tracy, California. Our rural location affords an idyllic agricultural locale. As such, we ask that teams not leave campus during the tournament as the nearest available food is quite a drive. As always, reasonably priced food options will be available throughout the tournament. For teams needing hotels, both towns of Manteca and Tracy offer competitive priced rooms that are equal distance (15 minute drive) to the campus.

Format

We will use the National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) rules and procedures for World Debate. Each team may consist of 3-5 members, with only three participating in the round. Official NSDA ballots shall be used. Rules and resources are available on the NSDA website or by following the link pasted here http://www.speechanddebate.org/worldschooldebate.

Schedule

The schedule is designed to accommodate both commuting schools and as well as traveling schools. Our hope is that you and your team will enjoy a more laidback and relaxed tournament experience by being able to leave each day by 5pm at the latest.

Entries

Due to campus size and room availability, each school is allowed one team (3-5 students) with a judge ratio of one to one. We ask that the judge be available one round after their team has been eliminated. Schools are asked to enter their team and judge on www.tabroom.com. Please enter one team (it may only let you enter one student name) and fill out the supplemental entry form in this invitation and bring it to registration. Remember that teams may consist of three to five students.

1st Annual Dragon World Debate Tournament Schedule

Saturday, November 12, 2016

Round 1 8:30am (SET)

Round 2 10:00am (IMP)

Round 3 12:00pm (SET)

LUNCH 1:00pm

Round 4 1:30pm (IMP)

Round 5 4:00pm (SET)

Sunday, November 13, 2016

Round 6 8:30am (SET)

Round 7 10:00am (IMP)

SEMIS 12:00pm (SET)

FINALS 1:30pm (IMP)

AWARDS 3:30pm

**SCHEDULE MAY CHANGE DUE TO ENTRY SIZE

SET TOPICS:

Round 1: This house would limit qualified immunity for police officers.

Round 3: This house believes that the benefits of the Internet of Things outweigh the harms of decreased personal privacy.

Round 5: This House would eliminate all occupational licensing requirements for practicing the law.

Round 6: This House supports the privatization of all government owned energy companies.

Semis: This House believes that digital currencies will cause more harm than good.
