Welcome to the home page for the 2016 Talk for Charity Tournament tournament hosted by Las Positas College on Feb 5, 2016 for College students.

Status: Tournament Completed

It’s Time to Give Back! Las Positas College invites you to the first (of hopefully many) Talk for Charity Tournament on February 5th, 2016

The purpose of this tournament is to make our voices heard in the form of money. We will be cutting costs all over the place for one purpose...TO DONATE TO CHARITY!!!
Here is how it will work:

1. There will be NO TROPHIES given for this tournament. This includes both individual and team trophies.

2. There will be NO FOOD PROVIDED for students, judges, and tab staff.

3. We will cut costs on paper usage.

4. We will do our best to recruit judges to work for free, this is for charity after all. If you have any judges willing to donate their time, please make a note in your entry.

5. The team that wins the tournament (Most points, can be either 2-year or 4- year) will have the funds saved by the cost cutting measures donated to the charity of their choice. We hope that a sum of up to $1000.00 will be available for charitable donation.

What we will need from you ahead of time:

1.Each team should submit the charity they will be competing for to either Tim Heisler (theisler@laspositascollege.edu) or Jim Dobson (jdobson@laspositascollege.edu). Please include the contact information of that charity so we know where to send a check. We will then send to the winning institution mail confirmation that the money was sent. We will also send that confirmation and a letter to your campus president detailing the tremendous work your forensics program has just accomplished.
2. The supplemental event will be a persuasive speech where individual students will speak for a charity. The student that wins this event will have ALL of the funds collected from entry fees for this event to be donated to the charity that student spoke for. If the entry fees come in under $100, we will supply the remainder to make the donation at least $100. See event description for details.
3. In an effort to help those in need of our local community, we encourage you to bring non expired canned food/nonperishable food items that will be donated to a local food bank. We will take $1.00 off an entry for every event entered. In other words, if you bring 20 slots and 20 cans of food, we will take $20 off the entry fee.
