This tournament will offer a Varsity division and a Novice division in all events.

Each competitor may enter up to four events, with a maximum of two in any pattern.

The Novice division is limited to students who have not competed in a high school speech and debate tournament in a previous school year. A Duo consisting of one novice and one varsity speaker must be entered in the varsity division; however, the novice partner may be entered in the novice division for their other individual events. For this tournament, those competing in the novice division will be permitted to use scripts during competition. Please note that the use of scripts can be taken into consideration by judges in their reason for decision in rankings. (Notes are never allowed in Impromptu.)

Judges: Each school is required to provide 1 judge per 5 entries, or part thereof, based on the pattern in which they have the larger number of entries. Schools not meeting their judging commitment will be required to drop entries to match their available judges. Required number of judges must be present throughout the entire tournament (including finals, even if no students from the school advance). Click here for instructions for entering judges.

Entry Fees: $6 per I.E. entry, $12 for duo. Make checks payable to SDIVSL. Fees are due at registration.

Entry Deadline: Entries must be posted on www.forensicstournament.net by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, November 2. No new teams or students may add after the entry deadline. The only changes allowed after the entry deadline is dropping entries (see below).

Drops: Dropped entries will be accepted without charge until Wednesday, November 4, at 5:00 p.m. After that time, the website will be closed and entry fees will be final. Please email (orfield.michael@gmail.com) or call in (858-354-3616) your drops after the drop deadline, even as late as on your way to the tournament, to obviate excessive changes at the beginning of the tournament. When calling in or emailing drops, be sure to give the speaker’s name, event, and your school clearly.

Break Rounds/Awards:

Each event will feature four rounds: three preliminary rounds for all competitors (or two prelim and a semi final - two panels of six competitors each - if there are 24 or more entries), and a final round (six competitors).

Awards will be given to all finalists (trophies for 1st - 3rd; medals for 4th - 6th). Team sweepstakes points will be accumulated for League #4-#6 and awarded at League #6. Trophies will be given to the top 3 teams earning the most sweepstakes points in the varsity division only, then class trophies will be awarded as warranted. Trophies will also be given to the top 3 teams earning the most sweepstakes points in the novice division only, then class trophies will be awarded as warranted. (The number of class trophies is dependent upon the number of teams competing in the tournaments. Classes are determined by number of entries - teams are divided into classes based on their number of entries as compared to other teams entered in the tournament. This will vary from tournament to tournament.)

Saturday, November 7

7:00 Registration

8:00 Rd 1 A (OO, OA, HI, TI, Duo)

9:30 Rd 1 B (Imp, Expos, DI, OI, OPP)

11:00 Rd 2 A

12:30 Rd 2 B

2:00 Rd 3 A

3:30 Rd 3 B

5:30 Finals - all events

7:30 Awards
