This tournament will offer a Varsity division and a Novice division in all events.

Each competitor may enter up to four events, with a maximum of two in any pattern.

The Novice division is limited to students who have not competed in a high school speech and debate tournament in a previous school year. For this tournament, those competing in the novice division will be permitted to use scripts during competition. Please note that the use of scripts can be taken into consideration by judges in their reason for decision in rankings. (Notes are never allowed in Impromptu.)

Judges: Each school is required to 1 judge per 5 entries based on the pattern in which they have the larger number of entries. Schools not meeting their judging commitment will be required to drop entries to match their available judges. Required number of judges must be present throughout the entire tournament (including finals, even if no students from the school advance). Click here for instructions for entering judges.

Entry Fees: $6 per I.E. entry, $12 for duo. Make checks payable to SDIVSL. Fees are due at registration.

Entry Deadline: Entries must be posted on www.forensicstournament.net by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, September 28. No new teams or students may add after the entry deadline. The only changes allowed after the entry deadline is dropping entries (see below).

Drops: Dropped entries will be accepted without charge until Wednesday, Sept 30, at 5:00 p.m. After that time, the website will be closed and entry fees will be final. Please email (orfield.michael@gmail.com) or call in (858-354-3616) your drops after the drop deadline, even as late as on your way to the tournament, to obviate excessive changes at the beginning of the tournament. When calling in or emailing drops, be sure to give the speaker’s name, event, and your school clearly.

Break Rounds/Awards: All events will consist of three preliminary rounds and a final round. Each panel will consist of six competitors (or fewer, depending on number of entries and divisibility by 6), and six competitors will break to finals. Awards will be given to all finalists (trophies for 1st - 3rd; medals for 4th - 6th).
