<p>Welcome to the first annual SCJFL Winter Elementary Tournament, this year held on Saturday, November 5th at Roosevelt Elementary School in San Gabriel, California.&nbsp;</p> <p>The First Annual SCJFL Winter Elementary Tournament</p> <p><strong>Saturday, November 5th, 2016</strong></p> <p>Roosevelt Elementary School &ndash; San Gabriel, California</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Nova 42 Academy is proud to organize this tournament with our host Roosevelt Elementary School.</p> <p>As this is the first tournament we are offering for Elementary students, it will be open to any Southern California based Elementary School without a school fee!</p> <p>League Fees will be waived for this first tournament &ndash; come check out how the SCJFL runs a tournament!</p> <p>Fees are $10 for each PF Debate Team / $5 for each SPAR Debater / $5 for each Congress entry / $5.00 for each Individual Event competitor and $10 for each DUO team.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>This tournament is open for students 3rd grade to 5th grade.</strong></p> <p>We will be offering the following events and will allow single entry in Pattern A</p> <p>AND single entry in Pattern B</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>PATTERN A EVENTS </strong><strong>(Please enter only one Pattern A event)</strong></p> <p><strong>Impromptu </strong>&ndash; 3 minutes of preparation and a 5 minute speech &ndash; note card allowed</p> <p>&nbsp;(topics will be concrete nouns, abstract nouns, quotations and a special surprise in Finals)</p> <p><strong>Storytelling </strong>&ndash; 5 minute speech &ndash; no notebook allowed</p> <p>(students are allowed to use a chair as a prop in their speech)</p> <p><strong>Poetry </strong>&ndash; 5 minute speech &ndash; small notebook required / no props allowed</p> <p>(topics will be concrete nouns, abstract nouns, quotations and a special surprise in Finals)</p> <p><strong>Duo Interpretation </strong>&ndash; 6 to 8 minute speech &ndash; partners must not look at our touch each other</p> <p>(any published or Internet published piece &ndash; no props or costumes)</p> <p><strong>Expository </strong>&ndash; 5 to 7 minute speech &ndash; Visual Aids (boards) are encouraged</p> <p>(time includes easel and board set-up / time starts when contestants name is called)</p> <p><strong>Interpretation </strong>&ndash; 6 to 8 minute speech &ndash; Published piece available in book form or online</p> <p>(can not be transcribed or commissioned &ndash; no visual aids or props allowed)</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>PATTERN B EVENTS </strong><strong>(Please enter only one Pattern B event)</strong></p> <p><strong>SPAR Debate </strong>&ndash; Stanford Style &ndash; all contestants can ask questions during Cross</p> <p>(2 min Prep, 2 min Pro Case, 2 min Con Case, 3 min open Cross, 2 min Pro Rebuttal, 2 min Con Rebuttal)</p> <p><strong>Public Forum Debate </strong>&ndash; Modified times (see below) &ndash; <strong>Sept/Oct topic</strong></p> <p>(4 min Cases, 2 min Cross Fire, 3 min Rebuttals, 2 min Cross, 2 min Summaries, 3 min Grand Cross, 2 min Final Focuses / 3 min Prep)</p> <p><strong>Student Congress </strong>&ndash; 4 bills &ndash; Legislation created by and P.O. assigned by tournament</p> <p>(2 min Author Speech &ndash; 3 min Aff or Neg Speeches &ndash; 1 min questioning / bills posted on October 20th)</p>
