<p>I am excited to invite you to the Region IV Tournament, held this year on March 24-25, 2017. The tournament will take place on the campus of Prairie State College in Chicago Heights, IL, and at the Holiday Inn Chicago Matteson Conference Center, Matteson, IL. The room rate is $89/night. You will need a CC to hold the rooms, but won’t be charged until you arrive at the hotel. Please be aware that breakfast and internet are included.</p>

<p>As in the past, we will help students prepare for Saturday morning competition in the hotel. Each school is expected to donate 2 rooms for competition. Unfortunately, there is no conference space in the hotel, so all Readers’ Theater and Duo competitions will take place at Prairie State College. Determination of medals will be based on ranks earned through the 3 rounds of competition.</p>

<p><strong>RULES</strong>: Phi Rho Pi national rules will govern student eligibility, school entry limits, individual entries, team sweepstakes, individual sweepstakes, and event rules (www.phirhopi.<strong>org</strong>). Schools are limited to 6 entries per event.</p>

<p>**A student may enter ONE of the first three events listed above AND the last event(s).</p>
<p>***In the case of IT, CA, STE, IPDA, it will be possible for some students to be triple-entered. We will do our best to communicate this to the scheduled judges so they know to wait for double/triple-entered students. Please keep in mind that students triple enter at their own risk.</p>

<p>The tentative plan is to finish the preliminary rounds on Saturday morning at the hotel. Depending on the hotel occupancy for Saturday night, the Saturday morning schedule might change slightly to allow for cleaning of hotel rooms. We will know the definite schedule a few days in advance of the tournament.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>JUDGES</strong>: Each school must provide one judge for every 6 IE slots and every 2 IPDA or parli teams (1 IPDA and 1 Parli team OR 2 IPDA teams OR 2 Parli teams). A limited number of hired judges will be available at $10.00 per uncovered slot. </p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Please, if you are bringing IPDA or Parli teams, provide us with enough judges to cover your slots!! </strong> If you know of any judges that would like to be hired by the tournament, please have them call Melissa.</p>

<p> </p>
<p><strong>FEES</strong>: The following fees will apply:</p>
<p>· $65.00 Region IV Fee (paid by each school)</p>
<p>· $7.00 per slot (IE, IT, IPDA, or Parli team) </p>
<p>· $10.00 per slot not covered by a judge</p>
<p>· Drops after 12:00 PM <em>Wednesday, March 22</em>: <strong>$10.00 per slot</strong></p>
<p>· Drops after 12:00 PM on <em>Thursday, March 23</em>: <strong>$15.00 per slot</strong></p>
<p>· Saturday drops “from the van:” <strong>$30 per slot</strong></p>
<p>· Drops at registration (slots and judges): <strong>$50.00</strong></p>

<p>We will be using <a href=\"http://www.forensicstournament.net/RegionIV/17\">ForensicsTournament.net</a> for entries and registration. </p>
<p>No substitutions after Wednesday at 12:00 PM. <strong>You can make any adds/drops/changes to your entry yourself at ForensicsTournament.net up until Wednesday at 12:00 PM.</strong></p>
<p>Entry and judging fees will not be reduced for drops after Wednesday at noon. Adds/drops/changes after noon on Wednesday should be emailed or called to Melissa as well. Be sure to get confirmation.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>BREAKING</strong>: All students who attain a cumulative rank of “7” or lower will automatically advance to the medal rounds in that event. If this does not represent 20% of the field <em>and at least 6 students</em> in that event, all ranks of “8” will also break to the medal rounds. This process will continue until at least 20% of the field and at least 6 students advance to the medal rounds. </p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>AWARDS</strong>: Awards will be presented to all competitors who advance to a medal round. Order of finish will be determined by the cumulative ranks on all ballots. Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards will be divided among all competitors advancing to a medal round. </p>

<p>Team sweepstakes awards will be presented to the top IE teams, the top debate teams, and the top six overall schools. </p>
<p> </p>
<p>The <strong>Cheri Corey Individual Sweepstakes Award </strong>will be presented to the top individual speaker. The sixth through second place overall speakers will also be recognized.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The <strong>Don Hagerty Award</strong> will be presented to the student in the region who reflects the fellowship qualities we find important in our region. The winner of this award will be determined by a vote of all regional competitors during the tournament.</p>
