Dear Sir/Madam,

On behalf of the organizing committee, I would like to sincerely invite you to participate in the 3rd

Annual China Open Debate Championships held from May 25 to May 27, 2012. The China 

Open is IDEA’s (International Debate Education Association) premier international 

competition in China, aiming at contributing to thriving debate communities in China and 

encouraging interactions among debaters. Colleges and universities from every part of China 

and from outside China are invited and encouraged to join the event.

             

The first two China Debate Opens were successfully held in Xi’an (2010) and Qinhuangdao 

(2011). This year’s China Open will move to Shanghai and will be hosted by Shanghai 

University of Finance and Economics (SUFE). The China Open will feature a diverse group of 

trainers, competitors and judges.

The tournament offers British Parliamentary Debate (BP Debate) as well as Moot Court.

British Parliamentary debates will be divided into Mandarin and English divisions. Moot Court

will be conducted in English. IDEA and SUFE are committed to establishing the China Open 

2012 as one of China’s best debate events, one that is rewarding for all involved. 

Although with a relatively young history, British Parliamentary debate has been spreading fast 

across mainland Chinese universities in recent years. We are honored to host this year's 

competition to get Chinese debaters further engaged in BP debate, and to provide a platform, 

on which every debater, judge, and educator can have intellectual discussion, intercultural 

exchange as well as mutual understanding.  

             

We have been working hard to make it a most enjoyable China Open for all participants. 

1. Team Cap: 200 teams (All three divisions).

2. As usual, no registration fee is charged, but expenses of lodging and accommodations are 

borne by participants themselves.

3. Tournament Dates:   May 25 – 27, 2012.

4. Registration Time：from May 24 to 12:00 noon of May 25

5. All tournament debates are held in the main SUFE campus on the Guoding Road. 

6. Participants who need assistance in booking hotel rooms nearby the SUFE campus will 

have to send email to chinaopen2012_link@163.com. Prices for a standard hotel room range 

from 200 to 300 RMB per day.

7. Shanghai is a paradise for sightseeing and shopping. The usual tourist resorts include Yu 

Yuan Garden, the New Bund and the Expo Center. Nanjing Road and Huaihai Road are

busy shopping areas, where you can see and experience the Shanghai Culture.

我们谨代表组委会诚挚邀请您参加于五月25日至27日举行的第三届中国辩论公开赛

（China Open 2012）。此项比赛是国际辩论教育协会（IDEA）在中国主办的最重要的国

际赛事，其目的在于进一步推动中国辩论活动，促进辩手之间的交流。欢迎海内外各高

校的辩手们踊跃报名参加！

前年和去年，第一届和第二届中国辩论公开赛分别在西安和秦皇岛成功举行，今年

比赛将移师美丽的上海，由上海财经大学（SUFE）主办。这届比赛将邀请来自中国、韩

国、马来西亚、美国及其他国家的辩论培训师，也将迎来更多的辩手和经验丰富的评委。

比赛形式采取英国议会制，这是国际上广泛接受、并被世界大学生辩论锦标赛

（WUDC）采用的比赛形式。比赛分为汉语普通话辩论、英语辩论和英语模拟法庭三个

组别。国际辩论教育协会和上海财经大学致力于将“2012中国辩论公开赛”打造成中国

最高级别的辩论赛事之一，让所有参与者都不虚此行。

       

尽管英国议会制辩论来到中国的时间并不悠久，但是近几年已经在中国地区广泛开

展起来。因此，我们希望通过举办此次比赛，搭建一个学习的平台，进一步推广英国议

会制辩论，并且让广大辩手、评委和教育工作者能够通过这一平台进行讨论、交流，以

取长补短，进而相互理解、建立友谊。

我们一直在努力筹备，让所有的参赛者通过中国辩论公开赛享受到辩论的快乐。细

节如下：

1.  队伍容量：上限200支队（包括三个组别）

2.  报到时间：5月24日全天和5月25日中午12点之前。

3.  赛前将有三个组别的培训。

4.  和上届一样，比赛不需缴纳注册费，食宿交通自理。

5.  需要组委会帮助联系宾馆的参赛人员，请发送邮件至 chinaopen2012_link@163.com，

组委会将尽量联系学校附近的准星级宾馆或三星级宾馆，住宿费用通常都是一个标准间

200-300元/天。）

6.  比赛和培训均在SUFE国定路主校区进行。

7.  上海是旅游和购物的天堂，各位可以利用余暇参观豫园和外滩，逛逛南京路和淮

海路，尽情感受海派文化。
